The Dunn Wedding Event video

7 Apr

Well… we’ve been married for 10 months now, and I am apparently a horrible blogger.

I have been an extreme slacker and I apologize for leaving everyone on the hook! I took you through the entire year and a half preparation, and then you didn’t get to see any of the final results! I guess marriage has made me a mean person, and for that, I am sorry! 🙂

I’d like to begin to make it up to you with this video that I finally made earlier this year. For those of you who attended the event, I hope you enjoy reliving a little bit of it. And for those of you who were not there, I hope this makes you feel like part of it all—because you definitely were!

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you, the Dunn Wedding Event…

Honeymoon photo shoot

10 Jul

As most of you know, I found an amazing Groupon before we went on our honeymoon for a $35 hour-long photo shoot on the beach! It was a so much fun! We met the photographer at Clearwater Beach, Fl., which was about 15 min north of Treasure Island, where we stayed. The pics turned out to be quite the success, if I say so myself!

Well folks. It’s time for the conclusion. The finale. The end at the beginning.

For those of you who have been reading from the beginning, it’s been a crazy past year and a half! Thank you so much for reading and following along with my insane DIY wedding. It’s been a blast, but I tell you what. I probably won’t be doing crafts for a while.

This isn’t the last post, don’t worry. A conclusion of a year and a half’s work doesn’t last just one post. So, we’ll be finishing this all up in the next week. I want to touch on a few things that I didn’t post, in fear of “ruining” it… or things I just completely forgot to include, of course.

But first. Let’s get to the goods. The main event!

The Wedding!

(as told by friends and family Facebook pictures)

1 Jun

Sorry I haven’t been updating this! But my life has been INSANE this week 🙂

Here’s a good example of what I mean:

It has been crazy.

  • Getting the flowers, preparing them
  • Having my ring cleaned
  • getting a mani/pedi
  • ordering kegs
  • eye brow waxing
  • ordering honeymoon books
  • picking up the cupcakes
  • putting the bridesmaid bouquets together
  • packing for the honeymoon
  • gathering everything we need to decorate the reception hall
  • getting stuff ready for the people who are checking Lilly when we’re gone
  • getting the honeymoon stuff together
  • I had my car checked on and had to do some maintenance for the drive
  • final touches on rehearsal dinner
  • final touches on some reception decor
  • getting music equipment for my awesome cousins who are playing at the ceremony
  • etc etc etc

It’s been crazy, but its also been a lot of fun 🙂 But I will say that I’m VERY ready for tomorrow to be here. I’m tired of planning.

Our flowers from turned out to be awesome! Here’s the yellow ones:

And my mom putting together one of the bridesmaid bouquets last night 🙂

And today I’ve been printing off my needed honeymoon documents, and getting ready for the busy day!

I leave work at noon, then we pack up decor and head to Alpine to decorate for the reception!

The rehearsal is at 6 and dinner is at 7!

Then I have my awesome lingerie shower at 9!

Then I’ll need to go to my apartment and “Lilly-proof” it for the next two weeks and make it more convenient for the people taking care of her.

Then bed time!!!

Tomorrow the day starts by delivering the kegs, taking the flowers to Alpine, finishing anything we don’t get done today.

Then getting ready starts at the hotel at 3 :)….

My girls and I will get ready together, I’m having my make up done and my hair. Then we have fun pictures together at Alpine at 5. Then the ceremony starts at 6!

Sunday we have a little breakfast in the morning, and then Craig and I will be on the road to Treasure Island, Florida, by 10AM!!!!!

Also…. this is my last day as a Nelson. 😦 Sort of a sad moment. But very excited to be a Dunn.

Successful weekend!

28 May

While I sit here and await the return of my fiance from Memphis (CAN’T WAIT… I missed him 😦 ), I’ll fill you in on everything I did this weekend.

The weekend started with a To-Do List:

I only have a few things left to do this week! Why? Because this is what I accomplished:

  • I bought a few more bottles of both the red and white wine (mostly to make up for the couple that I’ve enjoyed with dinner over the last year).
  • Find a friend to check on Lilly while we’re on our honeymoon.
  • Make the Wedding Weekend Schedule and send to bridesmaids
  • Prepared and wrapped all of the Wedding Party and “helpers” gifts
  • Gave the final catering numbers to HyVee
  • Bought fun crayons for the wine collars, so everyone can decorate them
  • I ordered the cupcakes for the wedding
  • I applied Goo-Gone to all of the amazing jars that people have given to me over the past year and a half
  • Apparently Goo-Gone can’t be near flame, so I had to put them all through the dish washer. 3 loads worth!
Oh yeah, and I’m an idiot……. What happens when water holding objects lay on their side in a dishwasher?
Womp womp womp…

What do I have left to do on the list?

  • I need to design some wine collar instructions so that each table knows that they can use the crayons to put their names on the collars and decorate them
  • I need to schedule my eye brow waxing that I purchased a Groupon for
  • Craig and I need to order the kegs
  • I need to finish up a banner
  • We need to clean my car and get it ready for honeymoon traveling
  • Pack for honeymoon and prepare all needed documents, etc

I’m sure there’s more that I’ll think of later.

I also did a fun project for Craig, but until he gets here to see it, you’ll have to wait too!

Old. New. Borrowed. Blue.

27 May

First of all… I missed my post for yesterday…

1 Week to Go!!!

Well, now there’s technically…

6 Days to Go!!!

So, everyone knows about the “Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue” tradition, but where did it come from and what does it mean?

The answer (thanks to

This tradition comes from an Old English rhyme (“Something Olde, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue, A Sixpence in your Shoe”), and the four objects that the bride adds to her wedding outfit or carries with her on the big day are just good luck charms. Don’t stress too much about them — they are the little tokens of love your mother, sister, other relatives, and attendants will give you at the eleventh hour (although you can give them to yourself, too).

Something old represents continuity.

Something new offers optimism for the future.

Something borrowed symbolizes borrowed happiness.

Something blue stands for purity, love, and fidelity.

Although they say don’t stress over it, and that’s true, it’s still a lot of fun to participate in this old tradition. So here goes… I present to you my old, new, borrowed and blue.

Something Old, Something Borrowed.

My something old and something borrowed are one and the same: my grandmother’s pearls.

These pearls have been worn in every wedding in my family (parents, aunts/uncles, cousins, etc). And now they will be worn in mine!

They are a beautiful strand of small, ivory colored pearls (in fact, they pretty much match my dress perfectly) that I’ll wear around my neck; as well as a beautiful matching bracelet! They’re going to look fantastic. And thank you to my Grandmother for letting us women all wear these beautiful old pearls!

Something New.

My something new is pretty obvious. And I’m pretty sure this is the norm for most brides. It’s my dress!

I’m not sure what brides do for their something new if they’re borrowing the dress (maybe from their mom, etc), but my something new is my dress. And I guess my shoes are new too. And my veil. And my undergarments.

So basically I’m covered in new.

Something Blue.

My something blue came in the mail yesterday! And like most brides, it’s my garter.

If you remember from about a week ago, I ordered my lovely $2 garter. Well it’s actually kinda awesome for $2! It’s simple and sweet… and not gaudy and gross like the $30 ones I was finding. Yuck.

So, there you have it! My own personal something old, new, borrowed and blue! Looks like I’m all set to have some good luck for the wedding and the future 🙂

And some much needed luck for keeping this forecast…

Weekend Preview

24 May

So, first of all, there are only NINE days until the wedding!!!

Today was full of wedding preparation!

I met with our photographer, Catherine Rhodes, to go over the day-of schedule for photography and reception order, etc etc. It was great, and it was a fantastic conclusion the  two days of important meetings and details we’ve been working on!

Then, after work, I headed over to Dermistique here in Columbia and had my wedding make-up trial! It was a lot of fun to be pampered a bit. Getting your makeup done is exciting 🙂 The appointment took about 30 minutes, but that included picking out colors and finding the airbrush foundation that matched my skin, and looking at my face in a mirror every few minutes, “You like it? You like it?”

The makeup turned out great, but it’s definitely a lot more than I’m used to wearing! Had to kind of get used to it, haha. It was a little heavy looking at first, because there was excess makeup just sort of sitting loosely on top of the skin. So when I got home, I simply took a tissue and lightly smoothed over my skin and it looked great! And it’s all water proof. Thank goodness.

Then I spent the rest of my evening making the “Wedding Weekend Schedule” from all the information from the meeting at Alpine and the meeting with Catherine this afternoon. I’ll send the schedule to my bridesmaids and keep it for my own sanity, as well.

Weekend Preview!

So what am I doing for my last weekend as a “single” lady?

Wedding prep.

What is Craig doing for his last weekend as a “single” man?

Going on his Bachelor Party trip to Memphis! Yes, the weekend before the wedding. Lovely. Buuutt… I’m very excited for him and his guys 🙂 It sounds like it’s gonna be awesome. A weekend full of BBQ, Beale Street and Baseball!

So excited for him! But I do get to do a couple AWESOME things for my Memorial Day Weekend.

#1 I get to go to a Cardinals game tomorrow evening with Craig and a couple of our friends! (Craig and the guys aren’t leaving for Memphis until Saturday morning)

#2 I have a 90 MINUTE MASSAGE scheduled for Monday afternoon! Thanks to a couple of awesome bridesmaids 😉 So as Craig and his guys are driving back to town all hung over, I’ll be having a lovely feel-good time!

So really, it’s going to be an awesome weekend. A bit stressful, but awesome. I have a lot of last-minute craft projects to do, and I have to get things prepared for the week ahead. It’s gonna be fun!

It’s almost here!

10 Days.

23 May

There are only 10 days until I’m a married woman.

There are only 10 days left of writing the word “Nelson” behind my name (well… not technically, because I won’t legally change my name until after the honeymoon).

There are only 10 days left for me to get this planning to all come together in a successful party.

There are only 10 days left of this fantastic blog.

Well… that last one is slightly false. I’ll be doing one last post when I return from the honeymoon with all the wedding details and honeymoon details, and images of the final product, etc etc. But only 10 more days of being a “blogger”… maybe….

Our last Alpine meeting

This evening Craig and I headed out to Alpine Park and Gardens to have our last meeting with the venue owner/manager/wedding-extraordinaire. Before heading out there, I posed some questions to followers on Twitter and friends on Facebook, asking for suggestions from married friends on things that I should definitely ask at the meeting.

I asked for things like “Was there anything that, knowing what you know now, you would have asked before hand?”

Here are some of the responses I received:

“If they cut and serve the cake, make sure they know whether or not you are saving the top tier for your 1st anniversary!”

“Make sure you do a preliminary audio/visual check if you have music for them to play, microphones, videos, etc.”

“Ask them to save some food for you! I REALLY appreciated that our reception venue put a basket together for us to take with us – we had no time to eat! They also packaged our cake topper nicely (even threw in a polaroid of us with the cake as a surprise). Will they have someone on hand to “fluff” your dress before you go down the aisle? Might ask if you can bring in subway sandwiches or something for the bridal party. Side try have to be there so early its nice to have a little something to eat.”

“I think it’s best to kind of trust the venue. After all, they’ve done this before, you haven’t and no need for you to stress!”

“I told them that if there were any issues/ decisions to go straight to my mom that I didn’t want to know so I could relax and enjoy my day I mean it for a sooo fast and I didn’t want to have to be all stressed out. Make sure dj has a list of events and when there happening.”

“Make sure you find out when you can get there to decorate, and how long you get to decorate! I only had an hour and it was horrible!”

Thank you to everyone who helped out! These were great suggestions, and made me feel better going into the meeting. I ended up typing up a couple pages of questions and brought it with me. The owner went over each question with me and even used his own pen to fill some in!

All in all, the meeting went fantastic! Set up is going to be a blast and a breeze, and everything is going to go great. When I said, “My mom would like to be my ‘point person.’ The one that people go to when there’s a problem. I don’t want to know.”

He replied with: “What problems? There won’t be any problems.”

And that is why he’s booked for the next two years.

Cutting Craig

So this was going to part of the bridesmaid’s surprise present, but this is too funny not to share. Plus, it’s such a tiny part of their present that I’m not worried about letting it slip.

So a while back, my mom and I were looking for some “gold” bracelets to go with the gold shiny shoes. We went to the awesome store in Springfield called Charming Charlies (thank GOD we don’t have one where I live, or I’d be there all. the. time.) and looked for some fun jewelry. We found this grouping of gold bracelets that came in what we thought was a pack. Each pack had 12 total bracelets, broken up in 3 different patterns. So 4 of each pattern. So we thought we were geniuses and bought two of the packs, so that each girl would get three bracelets, one of each pattern. Go us!

Once I got home to Columbia and I was putting together the rest of the bridesmaids’ gifts, I got out the bracelet “packs” to put 3 into each of the girl’s gifts.

Uh oh.

Each “pack” of bracelets was actually just supposed to be worn by ONE PERSON. They were all looped together connected!!! I was laughing so hard.

So tonight I finally decided that what I needed was a wire cutter. Then I’d snap these babies on their seem and separate them. Turned out to be harder than I thought… but Craig ended up finding a hidden talent! He’s a PRO at bracelet separation technique:

Weather Check!

Okay. Let me start this off by saying that I know that a 10-day forecast is not accurate. Buuuut… at the same time, it’s really nice to look at it and let myself get excited. The 10-day forecast now hits our rehearsal dinner day!

Week and a half…

22 May

1.5 Weeks To Go

Technically there’s a week and a half until the rehearsal dinner starts off the Wedding Weekend events!

So what did I do this weekend when I took a mini vacation from wedding planning?…

We went camping with friends and it was awesome, relaxing and just what I needed.

Although… I am now covered in mosquito bites and had a minor freak-out about whether or not they’d go away in time… but then I snapped back to reality and realized that yes, of course they will, like always.

In other news:

I have a wedding blog announcement! My last post, about taking a break from wedding planning, was my

200th blog post!

Woo hooo!!!!!

Today’s progress?

Today I bought a garter. What excitement. Haha. BUT, I got it for a steal! Do you know how expensive these things are? It’s insanely ridiculous.

Me: “Umm so, I just bought a $2 garter. Hope you’re okay with that…”

Craig: “Yes, of course. Whatever.”

Hahaha… we’re a little tired of all of this. But yay! I got my “something blue”…

The remaining week

Tomorrow we meet at Alpine Park and Gardens for the last time before rehearsal dinner. We’ll be discussing things like day of details, final numbers, etc. Then, Thursday, we’ll be meeting with our photographer one last time to discuss the details we’re discussing with Alpine, and then that evening I have my make-trial! On friday we submit our final numbers to the caterers and order the kegs, and then of course this weekend is packed full of final crafty projects.

Fun stuff ahead!!!

19 May

Oh. My. Gosh.

This coming week is going to be intense with final meetings with vendors/etc. I have something scheduled for every single evening! Insane.

And then of course, Memorial weekend will be the final push of finishing things up and getting everything ready to go (Craig will be at his bachelor party). So, looking ahead at everything we’ll be doing the next two weeks, and how intense this last push will be, here’s what I’ve decided to do this weekend:

I’m not kidding. In fact. I’m gonna start doing nothing-to-do-with-the-wedding right…. now….
